How to Use the Cybertection Honeypot File Tool (Simple Guide)

This tool acts like a digital burglar alarm for your files. If someone opens, changes, or deletes files in a folder you’re monitoring, it blares an alert (sound + popup).

• Download the Tool

• Run the Tool

🚀 How to Monitor Files

Step 1: Pick a Folder to Guard

• Click "BROWSE…" and select a folder (e.g., Documents/SecretFiles).

• If the folder doesn’t exist, the tool will create it.

Step 2: Start the Alarm

• Click "🚀 START MONITORING".

• The status will say:

  plaintext

  Copy

  🚨 MONITORING: C:\Users\You\Documents\SecretFiles

Step 3: Test It

• Open or edit any file in the monitored folder.

• You’ll instantly get:

  • 🔔 A loud beep

  • 🖥️ A popup alert (example below)

  • 📝 A log in the app (e.g., "passwords.txt was OPENED!")

 

🔒 Stealth Mode (Optional)

• Hide the app to the system tray (click the _ minimize button).

• It will keep running in the background and alert you.

🛑 Stopping the Tool

• Click "🔴 STOP MONITORING" to pause alerts.

• Click "Exit" in the system tray to close completely.

💡 Pro Tips

• Best Folders to Monitor:

  • Desktop (for quick access)

  • Documents/Passwords (to bait intruders)

  • Shared (for network drives)

• Make It Auto-Start (Windows):

  • Press Win + R, type shell:startup, and drag file_alarm.py into the folder.

• For Extra Security:

  • Fill the folder with fake files like bank_accounts.xlsx or passwords.txt.

Troubleshooting

❌ No alerts?

• Try moving the folder to C:\ (some systems block network drives).

• Temporarily disable your antivirus.

❌ App crashes?

• Run it as Admin (right-click → "Run as administrator").
